Quick Answers

The short version of everything customers ask us about refrigerated truck rental in the UAE.

What is a refrigerated truck?
A truck with an insulated body and its own refrigeration unit. It is the category term: chiller trucks, freezer trucks and reefer trucks are all refrigerated trucks.
Is a reefer truck the same thing?
Yes. "Reefer" is the logistics industry shorthand for refrigerated. The vehicles are identical; only the vocabulary differs.
Temperature range
-25°C to +15°C, adjustable. One truck can run chilled or frozen, and multi-temperature bodies can run both at once behind a bulkhead.
Sizes available
3-ton, 7-ton and 10-ton bodies. Below 3 tons a refrigerated van is the better economics.
Pallet capacity
Roughly 6 standard pallets at 3 tons, 10 at 7 tons, and full container loads at 10 tons.
When does a truck beat a van?
Once you are moving palletised loads. One truck replaces two van runs: fewer drivers, fewer trips, and a single temperature record for the whole load.
Driver included?
Yes for trucks. Our drivers hold the correct UAE licence category for the vehicle class and are trained in cold-chain handling.
Tail lift available?
Yes on several units, which matters for palletised cargo where the delivery point has no loading dock.
Coverage
Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Al Ain and the Northern Emirates, dispatched from depots in all three main emirates.
How do I get a price?
We quote per job rather than publishing a rate card. Send duration, truck size, route, pallet count and start date for a written quote, usually within the hour.

What a Refrigerated Truck Is

A refrigerated truck is a rigid truck with an insulated cargo body and its own refrigeration unit, normally mounted on the front of the box above the cab. Like “refrigerated van”, it is a category rather than a single product. A chiller truck, a freezer truck and a reefer truck are all refrigerated trucks; what separates them is the temperature band the unit is set to hold.

“Reefer” and “refrigerated” mean the same thing. Reefer is logistics shorthand, carried over from refrigerated shipping containers. Freight forwarders, port operators and shipping lines say reefer; food distributors and retailers say refrigerated. If you are comparing a quote for one against a quote for the other, you are comparing the same vehicle — see our reefer truck rental page if you arrived using the industry term.

Which refrigerated truck size fits your load

  • Under 3 tonsA refrigerated van is cheaper to run. City multi-drop, tight access, many short stops.
  • 3-ton truckUp to 6 pallets. Retail replenishment and restaurant supply.
  • 7-ton truckUp to 10 pallets. Wholesale distribution and supermarket replenishment.
  • 10-ton truckFull container loads. Port collections and warehouse transfers.
  • The tipping pointOnce one truck replaces two van runs, the truck is cheaper per pallet even though it costs more per day.

Chiller, Freezer or Multi-Temperature

The same truck body serves three different jobs depending on how the unit is set and whether a bulkhead is fitted.

Our Truck Sizes

Size the truck to your typical load rather than your largest one. Paying for a 10-ton body to cover one busy week a quarter is usually worse economics than hiring a second vehicle for that week.

3 Ton Refrigerated Truck

Capacity:
Up to 6 standard pallets
Temperature:
-25°C to +15°C

Best for: Retail replenishment, restaurant and hotel supply, city distribution where access is tight.

The smallest truck that still beats running two vans. Manoeuvrable enough for Deira and Al Quoz side streets.

7 Ton Refrigerated Truck

Capacity:
Up to 10 standard pallets
Temperature:
-25°C to +15°C

Best for: Wholesale distribution, supermarket replenishment, central kitchen output, multi-drop regional routes.

The volume workhorse. Most contract customers settle here once weekly tonnage is steady.

10 Ton Refrigerated Truck

Capacity:
Full container loads
Temperature:
-25°C to +15°C

Best for: Port collections, warehouse-to-warehouse transfers, bulk frozen import distribution.

Specify a tail lift if the receiving site has no dock. Also our usual choice for Jebel Ali and Khalifa Port runs.

Specifications for individual vehicles are on the 3-ton reefer truck and 10-ton heavy duty reefer pages, or compare everything on our fleet page.

Truck or Van?

This is the question worth getting right, because it is the one that changes your cost per delivery rather than your cost per day. A refrigerated van is cheaper per day and better suited to city routes with many short stops and tight access. A refrigerated truck costs more per day but far less per pallet, and it collapses two van runs into one.

The practical test: if you are sending two vans over the same route on the same day, a truck is almost certainly cheaper — one driver instead of two, one trip instead of two, and a single temperature record covering the whole load rather than two that have to be reconciled. If your drops are small, frequent and scattered across a dense area, stay with vans.

For van-sized loads see refrigerated van rental, or the temperature-specific pages for chiller vans and freezer vans.

Where cold chain actually breaks

  • Loading a warm boxThe single most common failure. Our trucks arrive pre-cooled so you load into a cold body, not a hot one.
  • Door-open timeAt 45°C ambient every minute of open door costs cold air. Drivers are trained to stage loads before opening.
  • Blocked air returnStacking cargo flush against the rear wall stops air circulating. Pallets need a gap.
  • No recordWithout a continuous log you cannot prove the chain held, which matters at inspection and in a dispute.
  • Handover gapsCargo standing on a hot dock between vehicle and cold store undoes the whole journey.

What We Carry

Truck-scale refrigerated work in the UAE concentrates in a few sectors, and each has its own rhythm. Food distributors and wholesalers run fixed daily or weekly routes and care most about reliability and a clean temperature record. Supermarket and hypermarket groups need replenishment inside narrow delivery windows. Seafood and meat traders move high-value cargo where a single excursion writes off the load. Central kitchens and catering groups push mixed chilled and frozen output to many sites on one run, which is where multi-temperature bodies earn their keep. Importers and freight forwarders pull frozen containers from the ports into cold storage.

For temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical and clinical cargo, our pharma cold chain logistics service adds GDP-aligned handling, validated data loggers and full chain-of-custody documentation. Food and FMCG contract work is covered on our food and beverage cold chain page.

Refrigerated Truck Hire by Emirate

Trucks are dispatched from depots in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, which is what makes same-day realistic rather than next-day.

Dubai — Jebel Ali and JAFZA container work, Al Quoz and DIP food manufacturing, Ras Al Khor wholesale markets, Dubai South.

Abu Dhabi — Khalifa Port collections, KIZAD and ICAD manufacturing supply, Musaffah cold stores, and onward to Al Ain.

Sharjah — SAIF Zone, Hamriyah Free Zone and the Industrial Areas, with onward runs to the Northern Emirates.

Al Ain — served from our Abu Dhabi depot, roughly 90 minutes, for farms, dairies and food processors.

What Shapes Your Quote

We quote each hire individually rather than publishing a rate card, because the same truck costs very different amounts depending on how it is used. Have these ready and we can price it quickly:

Truck size — 3, 7 or 10 ton, driven by your pallet count rather than your tonnage.

Temperature band — a deep-frozen set point works the unit harder than a chilled one.

Hire duration — daily, weekly or monthly. Longer terms drop the per-day rate sharply.

Route and drops — a fixed city route costs less to serve than long inter-emirate multi-drop work.

Tail lift — needed wherever the delivery point has no loading dock.

Start date — trucks are a smaller pool than vans, and peak windows book out early.

Send those six and we will come back with a written, all-inclusive quote, usually within the hour during working hours. Request a refrigerated truck quote, or message us on WhatsApp for the fastest response.

Frequently Asked Questions

A refrigerated truck is a rigid truck fitted with an insulated cargo body and an active refrigeration unit, usually mounted on the front of the box above the cab. It is a category term rather than one specific vehicle: chiller trucks, freezer trucks and reefer trucks are all refrigerated trucks. What separates them is the temperature band the unit is set to hold and how much insulation the panels carry.
There is no difference. "Reefer" is simply the logistics industry shorthand for "refrigerated", carried over from refrigerated shipping containers. Freight forwarders, port operators and shipping lines tend to say reefer; food distributors and retailers tend to say refrigerated. If you have been quoted for one and are comparing it against the other, you are comparing the same vehicle.
Our trucks run from -25°C up to +15°C, and the set point is adjustable. That single range covers deep-frozen cargo at -18°C to -25°C, chilled cargo at 0°C to +8°C, and controlled-ambient cargo that simply must not overheat. Multi-temperature bodies can hold two bands at once, separated by a movable bulkhead, so one vehicle can carry frozen and chilled stock on the same run.
Match the truck to your typical load rather than your largest one. A 3-ton truck handles up to about 6 standard pallets and suits retail replenishment and restaurant supply. A 7-ton handles up to about 10 pallets, which fits most wholesale distribution. A 10-ton handles full container loads and is the right choice for port collections and warehouse-to-warehouse transfers. If your load is under roughly 3 tons, a refrigerated van will cost less to run.
Yes. Trucks in these weight classes require a specific UAE licence category, so we supply them driven. Our drivers are trained in cold-chain handling, which in practice matters as much as the vehicle: pre-cooling discipline, load stacking that does not block the air return, and keeping door-open time short in 45°C ambient heat.
Yes, on a multi-temperature body. A movable insulated bulkhead splits the cargo area into two compartments with independent set points, so you can run -18°C on one side and +4°C on the other. It is the standard solution for mixed grocery distribution, and it avoids either sending two vehicles or compromising one product group.
Several of our trucks carry hydraulic tail lifts. They are worth specifying whenever the delivery point has no loading dock, or where pallets are being moved by one person. Tell us at quote stage, because tail-lift units are a subset of the fleet rather than standard on every vehicle.
Same-day across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah for most bookings placed before mid-afternoon, from depots in each of those emirates. Trucks are a smaller pool than vans, so peak windows — Ramadan, Eid, and the summer months — book out further ahead. Give us as much notice as you can for multi-vehicle contracts.
