Quick Answers

The short version of everything customers ask us about refrigerated van rental in the UAE.

What is a refrigerated van?
An insulated van with an active refrigeration unit. It is the category term: a chiller van and a freezer van are both refrigerated vans, set to different temperature bands.
Temperature range
Chiller configuration holds 0°C to +8°C. Freezer configuration holds -18°C to -25°C. The same body, a different set point and insulation spec.
Which one do I need?
If the cargo must stay frozen solid, you need a freezer van. If it must stay cold but not frozen — fresh produce, dairy, flowers, pharmacy stock — a chiller van is cheaper and correct.
Payload
1 to 3 tons. Larger loads move to a refrigerated truck at 3 to 10 tons.
How fast can I get one?
Same-day across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah when booked before mid-afternoon. Al Ain is same-day from our Abu Dhabi depot.
Driver included?
Your choice. A trained cold-chain driver, or self-drive against a valid UAE licence and a refundable deposit.
Hire terms
Daily, weekly or monthly. The per-day rate falls sharply as the term lengthens.
Can one van do both?
Several of our vans are dual-compartment, carrying chilled and frozen cargo on the same run. Tell us the split and we will configure it.
How do I get a price?
We quote per job rather than publishing a rate card. Send duration, vehicle size, driver preference, route and start date for a written quote, usually within the hour.

What a Refrigerated Van Actually Is

“Refrigerated van” is a category, not a single vehicle. It covers any insulated van with an active refrigeration unit — which means both chiller vans and freezer vans are refrigerated vans. The bodies look near-identical from the kerb. What separates them is the temperature band the unit is built to hold and how much insulation the panels carry.

That distinction matters more than most first-time renters expect. Booking a chiller van for frozen cargo is the single most expensive mistake we see: the unit will pull down to around 0°C and no further, and frozen stock that arrives soft cannot be re-frozen and sold. The table below is the fastest way to place your cargo correctly.

Chiller vs Freezer vs Refrigerated Truck

Find your cargo in the second row, then read up to the vehicle.

At a glance

Placing your cargo in the right configuration

  • Chiller, 0°C to +8°CFresh produce, dairy, chilled meat, flowers, bakery, pharmacy stock. The cheaper of the two to hire and run.
  • Freezer, -18°C to -25°CFrozen meat and poultry, seafood, ice cream, frozen ready meals. Heavier insulation and a harder-working unit.
  • Dual-compartmentBoth bands at once behind a movable bulkhead, for routes that mix chilled and frozen.
  • The deciding questionMust the cargo stay frozen solid? If yes it is a freezer van, regardless of how short the journey is.
  • Why it mattersA chiller unit stops around 0°C. Frozen stock that arrives soft cannot be re-frozen and sold.
The single decision that separates a chiller van from a freezer van, and what it costs to get wrong.

Fridge Van, Reefer Van, Cold Van: Same Vehicle

People ask us for the same van under half a dozen different names, and the vocabulary varies more by industry than by vehicle. It is worth stating plainly that these all describe the same thing, because comparing quotes is much harder when two suppliers use different words for an identical vehicle.

Fridge van / refrigerator van — the everyday term, common with restaurants, grocers and smaller food businesses. Identical to a refrigerated van.

Reefer van — logistics and freight-forwarding shorthand, carried over from refrigerated shipping containers. Same vehicle, industry vocabulary.

Cold van / chilled van — usually means the chiller configuration specifically, at 0°C to +8°C rather than sub-zero.

Frozen van / freezer van — the freezer configuration at -18°C to -25°C. See freezer van rental.

Van with chiller / van chiller — normally a rental enquiry, though occasionally someone means fitting a unit to a van they already own. We hire rather than install.

Insulated van — strictly this means insulation with no active cooling, which is a genuinely different vehicle and rarely what UAE cargo needs.

Whichever term you arrived with, the question we will ask is the same: does the cargo need to stay chilled or frozen? That answer picks the vehicle. Everything else is naming.

Refrigerated Van Hire by Emirate

We run from depots in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, which is what makes same-day delivery realistic across most of the country rather than next-day.

Dubai — Al Quoz, Jebel Ali and JAFZA, Dubai Investments Park, Deira, Dubai South. Chilled via chiller van rental in Dubai, frozen via freezer van rental in Dubai.

Abu Dhabi — Musaffah, KIZAD, Khalifa Port and the island. See chiller or freezer van hire in Abu Dhabi.

Sharjah — SAIF Zone, Hamriyah Free Zone, Industrial Areas 1 to 18. See chiller or freezer van hire in Sharjah.

Al Ain — served from our Abu Dhabi depot in roughly 90 minutes. See Al Ain van rental.

What Shapes Your Quote

We quote each hire individually rather than publishing a rate card, because the same van costs very different amounts depending on how it is used. These are the factors that move the number:

Configuration — a freezer set point works the unit harder than a chilled one, and costs a little more.

Hire duration — daily, weekly or monthly. Longer terms drop the per-day rate sharply.

Vehicle size — 1-ton Hiace-class, high-roof, or a 3-ton body.

Driver or self-drive — a trained driver adds to the rate; self-drive needs a licence and deposit.

Route and mileage — a fixed city route costs less to serve than long inter-emirate runs.

Start date — Ramadan, Eid and the summer peak book out early.

Send us those six and we will come back with a written, all-inclusive quote, usually within the hour during working hours. Request a refrigerated van quote, or message us on WhatsApp for the fastest response.

Bigger Than a Van: Refrigerated Trucks

A refrigerated van tops out around 3 tons. Past that the economics flip and one truck beats running two vans on the same route — fewer drivers, fewer trips, and a single temperature record for the whole load. Our refrigerated trucks run 3 to 10 tons with adjustable control from -25°C to +15°C, so one vehicle can carry mixed chilled and frozen cargo.

Specifications for individual vehicles are on the refrigerated van, 1-ton freezer van and high-roof chiller van pages, or compare everything on our fleet page.

Frequently Asked Questions

A refrigerated van is a light commercial vehicle with an insulated cargo body and an active refrigeration unit, usually mounted on the roof or the front bulkhead. It is a category term rather than a single product: both chiller vans and freezer vans are refrigerated vans. What separates them is the temperature band the unit is specified to hold, and how much insulation the body carries.
Refrigerated van is the umbrella term. A chiller van is a refrigerated van set to 0°C to +8°C for fresh food, dairy, flowers, bakery and pharmacy deliveries. A freezer van is a refrigerated van set to -18°C to -25°C for frozen meat, seafood, ice cream and frozen ready meals. Ask for a refrigerated van and the first question we will ask is which of those two your cargo needs.
Across our fleet the full span is -25°C to +8°C, but no single van covers all of it at once. A chiller-configured van holds 0°C to +8°C. A freezer-configured van holds -18°C to -25°C. Dual-compartment vans can run both bands at the same time, with a bulkhead separating the chilled and frozen sections.
A compressor driven by the van engine, or by an independent electric unit, circulates refrigerant through a condenser and then an evaporator inside the cargo body. The evaporator absorbs heat from the compartment and the condenser sheds it outside. Insulated panels keep that cold air in. Because every door opening lets warm UAE air in, our vans are delivered pre-cooled and drivers are trained to keep door-open time short.
Yes. Self-drive hire requires a valid UAE driving licence of the right category and a refundable security deposit. For multi-drop routes most customers take a trained driver instead, because cold-chain handling — pre-cooling, load stacking, door discipline — has more effect on cargo condition than the vehicle itself does.
From 1-ton Hiace-class vans up to 3-ton bodies, in standard and high-roof configurations. High-roof bodies give noticeably more cubic capacity for bulky but light cargo. Past roughly 3 tons, a refrigerated truck at 3 to 10 tons becomes the better economics.
