Quick Answers

The short version of everything customers ask us about refrigerated van rental in Abu Dhabi in the UAE.

What is a refrigerated van?
An insulated van with an active refrigeration unit. Chiller vans and freezer vans are both refrigerated vans, set to different temperature bands.
Which configuration do I need?
Chilled at 0°C to +8°C for fresh produce, dairy, flowers and pharmacy stock. Frozen at -18°C to -25°C for anything that must stay solid.
Where we dispatch from
Our Musaffah depot, minutes from ICAD, KIZAD and Mohammed Bin Zayed City rather than an hour up the E11.
How fast in Abu Dhabi?
Same day across the emirate when booked before mid-afternoon. Al Ain is same-day too, roughly 90 minutes from Musaffah.
Areas covered
Musaffah, ICAD, KIZAD, Khalifa Port, Abu Dhabi Island, Mohammed Bin Zayed City, Shahama, Yas and Saadiyat, and Al Ain.
Payload
1 to 3 tons, in standard and high-roof bodies. Larger loads move to a refrigerated truck at 3 to 10 tons.
Driver included?
Your choice. A trained cold-chain driver, or self-drive against a valid UAE licence and a refundable deposit.
Can one van do both?
Several vans are dual-compartment, carrying chilled and frozen on the same run behind a bulkhead.
How do I get a price?
We quote per job. Send duration, vehicle size, configuration, driver preference, route and start date for a written quote, usually within the hour.

Refrigerated Van Hire in Abu Dhabi

Searching for a refrigerated van rather than a chiller or freezer van usually means the configuration is still open. That is the right question to settle first, because the two vehicles look the same from outside, price differently, and picking the wrong one is expensive in a way that cannot be undone — frozen stock that arrives soft cannot be re-frozen and sold.

Al Sahara runs its Abu Dhabi fleet from Musaffah, in both configurations. Every van arrives pulled down to your set point and logs the journey continuously for your HACCP file. For loads above roughly 3 tons, our refrigerated truck rental in Abu Dhabi is the better economics.

At a glance

Chiller or freezer: matching the van to the cargo

  • Chiller, 0°C to +8°CFresh produce, dairy, chilled meat, flowers, bakery, pharmacy stock. Cheaper to hire and run.
  • Freezer, -18°C to -25°CFrozen meat and poultry, seafood, ice cream, frozen ready meals. Heavier insulation, harder-working unit.
  • Dual-compartmentBoth bands at once behind a bulkhead. Standard for institutional catering routes in the capital.
  • What decides itWhether the cargo must stay frozen solid, not how cold you would like it to be.
  • Distance factorOn the 90-minute Al Ain run in summer, insulation quality matters far more than on a 20-minute island drop.

Areas We Serve in Abu Dhabi

Musaffah & ICAD — our depot and the emirate's food-processing and cold-store district. Same-hour dispatch is often possible.

KIZAD — industrial manufacturing and distribution, on daily and contract schedules.

Khalifa Port — van-sized collections of cleared refrigerated cargo, staged against your clearance window.

Abu Dhabi Island — hotels, restaurants, supermarkets and clinics from the Corniche to Khalidiyah, where tight access favours vans.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City & Shahama — retail and residential-area supply on scheduled runs.

Yas & Saadiyat Islands — hospitality, event catering and leisure-venue supply.

The Al Ain Run

Ninety minutes each way from Musaffah, and the single journey on which vehicle quality shows most clearly. A van that holds temperature comfortably on a twenty-minute island drop can lose the plot on the Al Ain road in July, when the ambient is above 45°C and the unit has no respite. It is the reason we do not run a budget tier of vehicle — the fleet has to be specified for the hardest run it does, not the easiest.

For Al Ain itself, the cold chain often starts at production: farms, dairies and food processors loading straight from the field or the line. Full regional detail is on our Al Ain chiller and freezer van rental page.

Already Know Your Configuration?

If the cargo decision is already made, these pages carry more depth on each configuration:

Chiller van rental in Abu Dhabi — 0°C to +8°C for fresh produce, dairy, flowers and pharmacy deliveries.

Freezer van rental in Abu Dhabi — -18°C to -25°C for frozen meat, seafood, ice cream and frozen ready meals.

Specifications for individual vehicles are on the refrigerated van and high-roof chiller van pages. National coverage and the full comparison are on our refrigerated van rental hub.

What Shapes Your Abu Dhabi Quote

We quote each hire individually rather than publishing a rate card. A Musaffah shuttle and a daily Al Ain run are different jobs in the same vehicle. Have these ready:

Configuration — chilled, frozen, or dual-compartment.

Hire duration — daily, weekly or monthly, with the per-day rate falling as the term extends.

Vehicle size — 1-ton, high-roof, or 3-ton body.

Driver or self-drive — a trained driver adds to the rate; self-drive needs a licence and deposit.

Route and distance — island and Musaffah work prices differently from Al Ain or Al Dhafra.

Start date — Ramadan, Eid and the summer peak book out early.

Frequently Asked Questions

Refrigerated van is the category term for any insulated van with an active cooling unit, covering both chiller and freezer configurations. Your cargo decides which. If it must stay frozen solid — ice cream, frozen meat, seafood — you need a freezer van at -18°C to -25°C. If it must stay cold but not frozen — fresh produce, dairy, chilled meat, flowers, pharmacy stock — a chiller van at 0°C to +8°C is correct and costs less.
From our depot in Musaffah, the industrial heart of the emirate, within easy reach of ICAD, KIZAD, Khalifa Port, Mohammed Bin Zayed City and the island. That location is why same-day is realistic in Abu Dhabi rather than a vehicle being driven down from Dubai on the morning of your booking and arriving already warm.
Yes. Al Ain is served from the same Musaffah depot, roughly 90 minutes away, so a van booked before midday can usually be on site the same day. It matters more there than the distance suggests, because Al Ain is the agricultural centre of the emirate and the cold chain often begins at the point of production rather than at a distribution centre.
Yes, on a dual-compartment body. An insulated bulkhead splits the cargo area into two zones with separate set points, so one van can run -18°C on one side and +4°C on the other. It is the usual answer for institutional catering and convenience distribution in the capital, where a single route mixes both. Specify it at quote stage.
We do. Yas Island, Saadiyat and the Corniche run daily, and we cover Al Dhafra including Ruwais and Madinat Zayed on scheduled contracts. Longer-distance runs may carry a small mobilisation fee on short hires, which is quoted up front and normally absorbed into weekly and monthly rates.
From 1-ton Hiace-class vans up to 3-ton bodies, in standard and high-roof configurations. High-roof gives more cubic capacity for bulky but light cargo. Above roughly 3 tons a refrigerated truck is better economics, which in Abu Dhabi tends to happen sooner than in Dubai because more of the work is port-linked and palletised.
